Consulting

I provide fractional consulting for the engineering side of user experience & interaction design for highly technical or semantically-thorny interaction problems.

I can help you solve problems such as:

  • people are having trouble understanding or making-sense of information

  • people aren’t confident that the action they’re about to take is going to accomplish what they think it’s going to accomplish

  • people are making costly mistakes because the computer is confusing

My work focuses on:

  • connecting decision-making to data through design

  • building guard-rails in interfaces to prevent mistakes

  • ensuring the integrity of information meaning is carried through a system

  • the entire interaction process from the big picture to the minutia of interfaces

I have worked in over 20 programming languages and with a wide variety of data stores and protocols across several problem domains.

I’ve built graphical user interfaces for the web, mobile, and desktop, text-based user interfaces, application programming interfaces (APIs), interactive data visualizations, and have helped a client work through protocols for a critical human-to-human interaction problem.

I’ve helped companies in a variety of fields including health care, financial technology, ecology, and technical infrastructure, and my work has helped people save time, money, and lives.

My engagements typically include:

  • user experience interviewing

  • iterative prototyping work

  • producing finished products

  • helping design & engineering teams successfully own the problem post-engagement

  • persuading stakeholders of the need for caution and risk-management
